Frank Matera Death–Dedicated member of Yonkers City VFW Dies At 56
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Frank Matera, a dedicated member of Yonkers City Post 1666 VFW. Born December 17, 1969, Frank answered the call to serve, entering the United States Navy in March 1987. His commitment was proven during deployment in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1990. Honored with medals including the Southwest Asia Service Medal, he completed his service in 1995.

Frank returned home to Yonkers, working in maintenance and for Marden Hardware. He joined our Post in 2019, quickly becoming a cornerstone of our community. An extremely talented painter, he was often found with a brush or roller in hand, improving our home. More importantly, he was found with a helping heart. Frank possessed a heart of gold, always the first to lend a hand at community events and the last to leave, ensuring every task was complete.
Recently, Frank moved to Florida seeking improved VA care, continuing maintenance work even as his health declined. After a brief hospice stay in Delray Beach, he passed on Tuesday at the age of 56. We remember Frank not only for his service to our nation but for his unwavering service to his fellow veterans and our Post. His dedication, talent, and kindness leave an indelible mark on all who knew him. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
